Competitive keyword analysis is the first step in any optimization project. We discuss your target markets and develop a list of short tail and long tail keywords. This list, typically 25 to 500 keywords is used throughout the optimization process. It's also used to track our success as we improve search engine rankings over time.

Google Keyword Tool: This free tool is intended primarily for Google's paid search advertisers. The advertiser competition is more a factor of what terms are being bid on, not necessarily the highest traffic keywords.

Wordtracker: The best entry level research tool. They have a (simple) free version and a paid version. This is a more accurate depiction of actual search traffic occurring in almost real time.

Trellian Keyword Discovery: The ultimate keyword research tool. Very expensive, but it delivers the most accurate data, including seasonality, KEI and browser share results. This is for the serious marketer and is our tool of choice.
